Black Magic
Khawv koov dub or black magic is described as using supernatural energy that is evil or demonic in nature. All black magic serves for an evil purpose. All of the time it is used, it is used for negative and evil purposes that cause harm, sometimes even death, to another person.
The use of black magic involves using an evil spirit or conjuring of an evil spirit, controlling them, and using them to cause harm. The person who uses black magic can conjure an evil spirit by casting a specific spell that gives ownership of that evil or demonic soul over to the person conjuring it. They can sometimes do this by using the actual bone or ash of a body part of a deceased person. By doing so they are awakening that person's soul, claiming ownership of it, and using it for evil. That person then becomes the "master" to those evil spirits. In order to keep these evil and demonic spirits from attacking or causing harm to them, the master must conjure these evil souls out and cause harm to others. This is their way of feeding. If the master doesn't conjure them out or use them after already claiming ownership, the evil spirits will cause harm, sometimes even death, to that master. You do not have to be a shaman to be a master in black magic and spells.
Good and pure Hmong shamans do not use black magic or evil spirits for any reason or occasion, ever. Shamans can only protect themselves by casting specific spells that are pure and clean by energy and cannot return any harm or evil back to its original owner. For example, if someone casts a black spell on another shaman, if that shaman is good and pure in nature, they cannot return or reverse that spell. They can only cast protective spells to protect and hide themselves and their family. If that shaman uses black magic, even to reverse or return a black spell, their shaman spirits will be tainted with evil magic and now possess demonic energy.
There are many stories in Hmong culture when it comes to black magic and spells. There have been stories of shamans falling off their bench during trance rituals, their shaman instruments and tools breaking or snapping, altars being set to flames, shamans getting sick, shamans going mentally insane, and even shamans dying because of black spells. It is never a good idea to use black magic for any reason. When a master of black magic dies, it is said that all the evil spirits and demonic souls they used will come for that master and feed on their soul, never allowing that master's spirit to reincarnate or return to the homeland to rejoice with their ancestors. They will remain an eternity with their evil spirits and will become a hungry demonic spirit wondering the universe in limbo forever.
